City of Decatur Texas Seth Keener Skatepark

Update: 1/23/25 – We just found out. The Decatur Texas Seth Skatepark is NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! A grand opening event is being planned for March 1, 2025. Stay tuned for details. We hope you can join the City in the celebration. Until then, happy skating!

Update 1/16/25 – As of today the new Decatur Texas skatepark is not yet open to the public. Skatepark rules signage and grass sod are being installed within the next week. Stay tuned for more photos of the Seth Keener Skatepark in Decatur, Texas. We will post updates on park happenings and any plans the City has for a skatepark grand opening event.

DECATUR TEXAS SKATEPARK PROJECT DESCRIPTION

What an absolute beauty! Harmon Park has undergone a full make-over in the past few years. The playground is seriously impressive. The old skatepark….not so much. And that’s how this community-driven skatepark project started. It’s a way to honor the memory of Seth Keener and his love for skateboarding while providing the citizens of Decatur with epic concrete skatepark terrain. Skatepark users include skateboarders, inline skates, roller skates and bikes.

The old metal prefabricated skatepark still currently exists on the other end of Harmon Park. Ideas are in the works for what other parks features to put in it’s place. The new and improved skatepark resides at the corner of N. Miller and E Ash St just two blocks from E Walnut St. in Downtown Decatur. There’s plenty of parking within Harmon Park, and by the way, there’s a nice convenient store 2 minutes (walking) away.

Funding for the Decatur Texas skatepark came from a 2021 bond as well as a donation from the Keener family. The SPA Skateparks – New Line Skateparks design build skatepark team held a comprehensive series of in-person meetings to gather input on the overall design and skatepark terrain. SPA Skateparks’ skatepark construction craftsmen built the park in approximately two and a half months. The City of Decatur added sidewalks and a (nice) rod-iron fence to keep cars, pedestrians and skaters safe and in their own lanes. Finally, shade structures have been considered, although as of this writing, have not yet been installed. For now, take a break under the canopy of a nearby mature tree.

PROJECT TERRAIN

At just over 7,500 square feet in size the Decatur Seth Keener Skatepark maximizes the park’s available development area. Skatepark terrain includes a slew of staple plaza features, transitional elements and an open ended bowl with mini ramp section just to name a few. See the list of features below and check out the photos within this page. The entrance to the skatepark welcomes you with the park’s name “Seth Keener Skatepark”. Ledge seats provide a place to rest between runs, safely, from the rest of the action.

We will post the Seth Keener Skatepark in Decatur Texas rules sign here for quick reference once received from the City. Until then, check it out, and if you’d like to confirm hours and rules beforehand, we suggest you contact the City of Decatur’s Parks and Recreation Department. They’re great folks and do the City proud.
