City of Seguin Skatepark – MTR Skate Park

The highly anticipated Michael Thomas Raetzsch (MTR) Skatepark in Seguin, Texas has received rave reviews from local skaters and the City at large. Located only minutes from San Antonio, New Braunfels and San Marcos the City of Seguin’s MTR Skatepark will most certainly become a regular stop for Texas skaters.

Seguin Skatepark Terrain

The MTR Skatepark consists of a main line connected by three octagonal plaza areas. On both ends, and caddy corner from each other, are two more elevated octagonal areas. The result is a street skater’s dream. Designed for all ages and skill levels, skatepark features include multiple stair cases, down and flat rails, London and China Bank type gaps, boulder detailed ledges, and banked and transitional walls just to name a few.

The City contracted with SPA Skateparks for design-build skatepark services. Collaboration with the Park West Renovations General Contractor, architect, and City was necessary to ensure a safe and efficient process. Despite an unusually wet spring, SPA Skateparks completed the project on time and within budget.

The skatepark and surrounding areas come fully loaded with other park amenities as well.  The City installed LED skatepark lighting system! This will allow skateboarders to use the park in the evenings during the hot summer months, and in the winter when the days get dark soon after school ends. There is a parking lot that will be shared with the basketball court and a skater and dog friendly water fountain. Irrigation and grass installation are planned for the coming months. The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDoT) also worked in the area, installing a concrete pedestrian pathway that connects the west side of Seguin to downtown.
