The City of Missouri Texas Community Skate Park is open to the public! An official skatepark grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was on March 30, 2019.
DESCRIPTION
The City of Missouri City Texas is now the proud owner of a modern, site built concrete skateboard park. Located within Community Park this skatepark is intended to truly be the City’s community-scale facility. The current skatepark is approximately 5,000 sf. SPA Skateparks along with our friends at New Line Skateparks provided full skatepark design services including site selection assistance, site analysis, base data collection, detailed engineered estimates, public consultation, conceptual design development, preparation of skatepark plans and specifications. Construction bid assistance and construction management further ensured a quality, specialty contractor performed the construction. Stay tuned because Missouri City isn’t done yet. A second phase has been conceptually designed. It’s the hope of both the community and City staff that a fully envisioned skatepark facility will be realized in the coming years.
TERRAIN
SPA Skateparks met with the public twice during the skatepark design process. During the initial meeting a confirmed site was presented and through a series of exercises, and users’ feedback was collected on desired terrain type(s), particular skate features and supporting amenities. Our team later presented two conceptual designs for consideration – both significantly different from the other. At the second public consultation meeting, the final design was confirmed and even more refined suggestions for changes were collected and reflected in the construction documents.
The end result is a fairly diverse skatepark layout including areas of varying height, turn-around walls and street-influenced features. The City of Missouri City in collaboration with Houston Skateboards provides skateboard lessons and summer camps each year. For that reason and at their request, the design offers plenty of flat ground space for beginners. See design boards and skatepark photos on this page.
