DESCRIPTION
The City of Anna, located just north of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, started the process of renovating Slayter Creek Park several years ago. The expansion of parking lots, new pickle ball and basketball courts, a modern restroom, state-of-the-art splash pad and, of course, a site integrated custom concrete skate park make up the major components of the project. The new skatepark and pump track replace the old pre-fabricated metal ramp system once located at the same location. Don’t forget, the Anna Texas skate park in Slayter Creek Park has a full skate park lighting system!
SPA Skateparks is proud to have been selected by the City as the preferred pump track and skatepark contractor. Our friends at New Line Skateparks served as the skatepark designer for the project. And as part of the design process, the local community provided their input over the course of several public meetings, ultimately creating a one-of-a-kind skatepark and pump track for Anna, Texas. The new skate park and pump track take up the The City’s commitment to improve the quality of life for Anna residents has been the driving force for these, and other, improvements.
ANNA TEXAS SKATE PARK TERRAIN
The City of Anna Texas Skate Park consists of approximately 18,000 square feet of custom concrete terrain. And to clarify, it’s not only a skate park. A concrete pump track makes up roughly 40% of the overall footprint. This is a pump track like no other. So let’s start here with a brief description of what a pump track is. Think of a rippled sidewalk. You maintain speed by ‘pumping’ your legs as you ride around the track. Pump tracks cater to an even larger user-base. It’s a great place for younger riders to learn. Technically there are two independent pump tracks within the skate park. One is oval in shape and is completely hard surfaced in the middle. The other is a multi-lane pump track that winds across itself at several point, creating several skate lines within the same pump track system. Green spaces between the lanes consist of synthetic grass. As of this writing, the closest public pump track is located in Fort Worth’s Dickies Skate Plaza in Fire Station Park. However, Anna’s pump track separates itself from any other in almost every way possible.
The skate plaza section of the skatepark consists generally of 3 separate elevated sections. Unique skate features and variations of the must-haves create 3 main traffic directions – each with the anticipation that one lane is faster or slower than the other. Some of the features include: A-frame with gap and rail, central manual / ledge complex, two sets of stairs, hubba and pyramid.
A SENSE OF PLACE
The City had the foresight to really make being at the skate park a beautiful and functional place to be. The skatepark in Anna, Texas has a full skatepark lighting system! A pedestrian plaza provides access to the skate park from the parking lot, and a walkway wraps the skatepark so users can enter/exit the skatepark from different locations. Finally, irrigation and landscaping provide relief from the concrete surface.
