Boerne Skatepark
The design-build Boerne Skatepark in the Texas Hill Country started with an elementary school library packed with 75 local youth and skaters. Their input was crucial during the skatepark design process. What was everyone screaming for? The City and community of Boerne wanted a facility that showcased their historic Hill Country town. Skaters wanted a traditional street plaza layout with perfect street influenced obstacles. The resulting 8,300 square foot skatepark includes pure skate plaza terrain. Integral colored concrete ribbons representing arts, crafts and quilt work the area is known for.
The Boerne Skatepark design emulates a real street plaza style setting. Features include multiple stair sets, down ledges and rails, cantilevered banks and quarter pipes. A signature “Maloof” feature from the Maloof Money Cup Contest is a central skate feature. Red and brown integral colored concrete shade structure with seating add to appealing setting within the many, large oak trees. Amenities include a restroom facility, skatepark ADA access, trash receptacles, and a lit parking lot. SPA Skateparks is proud to have partnered with our friends at New Line Skateparks for the Boerne Texas Skatepark project.
We completed the Boerne Texas Skatepark within budget and in time for the grand opening. It timed nicely with the International Go Skateboarding Day on July 21st 2010. SPA helped organize the grand opening event by inviting regional skate teams, action sports company donations and emceeing a skate demo. The Mayor, City Council and staff are amazed at the number of skaters, and their families, who now enjoy the skatepark on a daily basis. The Boerne Texas Skatepark has been receiving rave reviews from the nearby San Antonio area and is now considered one of the most “real street” skateparks in the State.
