City of Alvin Texas Skatepark Plaza

The Alvin Texas Skatepark Plaza, nestled into the City’s prized National Oak Park, is just a few blocks away from City Hall and the downtown business district. SPA Skateparks began this project by guiding the City Council and Parks Board on a site selection exercise. The result was a surprisingly unanimous recommendation. The park space already served as a community-wide event center and ties to other City parks through a system of walking trails. SPA Skateparks responded to the City’s vision of hosting movies, art shows and barbeque functions at the skate park. Implementing ‘skateable’ seating and a central open area made the skatepark accessible to all. The skate park’s “X” design connects the skate plaza to the park’s sidewalk system, inviting spectators to safely walk around or through the skate plaza, while serving as world-class skateable streetscape terrain for skaters.

Alvin Skatepark Terrain

A skate park plaza and transitional features make up the 6,000 square feet of terrain. The Alvin Texas design build skatepark plaza truly represents a skate park integrating into, and enhancing an already-popular City park. A long, multi-use mini ramp with jersey barrier, hips and banks make up approximately a quarter of the skate terrain. Furthermore, cantilevered quarter pipes, banks, along with plaza terrain including stairs, manual pads, ledges and rails comprise the majority of the park.
